在多次被外界猜測將參加經典賽後，紅雀隊內野手Matt Carpenter今天終於表態將代表美國隊出賽，另外同隊的頂級新秀Alex Reyes也表示將加入多明尼加國家隊，幫助球隊完成衛冕。
「我一直都想參加看看世界棒球經典賽，而紅雀隊准許了我去參賽。」Reyes接受訪問時如此表示。
而Carpenter的加入則會給美國隊的野手戰力帶來顯著的提升，他能守三個內野位置，甚至也能支援中外野，多功能的守位將會強化美國隊的陣容深度。而優異的打擊能力，將能很好的補上球隊所需要的開路先先鋒人選。
紅雀總管John Mozeliak表示，在不受傷的前提下，樂於看到選手們去參加經典賽，這對他們來說是一個很好的經驗。

球員工會今舉辦「職棒球員工會高爾夫公益賽」多位職棒球星和教練都有參加，其中全場焦點當然是好久不見的「台灣之光」王建民了。而關於他打不打經典賽的問題，中華隊總教練郭泰源今表示，很期待他能加入球隊，但目前還不知道他的想法。
王建民今天到場參加高球公益賽，在雨中擔任第10洞的關主，全身淋濕仍奮力開球，可說是誠意十足。他笑著說過關贈品都快發完了，表示自己面對眾家好手真的快「Hold」不住啦。
而關於打不打經典賽的問題，總教練郭泰源今天也親自表明，有一段時間沒有和王建民談了，之後還會再跟他做最後確認。
「感覺他在拚大聯盟吧，不過這個機會應該比較小了。」郭泰源認為王建民應該仍志在挑戰MLB，所以已經做好心理準備，他可能最後不選擇參加國家隊。
